I'm talking to a lot of CEOs right now who are simply "sick of waiting." Covid, tariffs, irregular markets, it's been a non-stop series of 'non-starters' for the last four years. Leaders feel an overwhelming need to move, to make a difference, to create. Nobody becomes the leader of a business just to sit around and 'hope' everything goes okay.
The CEOs I speak with sense the next big surge for business is coming NOW, and they're ready to make it happen themselves. They're done waiting for clarity. It feels like they're starting a surge of positive energy.
I like the metaphor of business being like a surfer on the ocean. We wait until we see a wave, 'our wave', and when we see it, we start paddling. The art in business, just like the art of surfing, is to time your acceleration to catch the wave for a successful, thrilling ride to success.
Right now, the impulse to go is strong. The CEO says, “Damn the torpedoes,” and the CFO is probably wincing.
The biggest risk isn't waiting, it's not being ready. It's having a 'sloppy operation' when you start to paddle forward. Is your company ready to paddle with you? You have to ensure your systems, capacity, and team are absolutely solid before you jump in. That's the difference between profitable growth and a Turnaround scenario waiting to happen, because you just weren't ready!
